The ICS has been established by NIMS as the standard incident organizational management structure. One of the most important "best practices" that has been incorporated into NIMS is the Incident Command System (ICS), a standard, onscene, all-hazards incident management system already in use by firefighters, hazardous materials teams, rescuers and emergency medical teams. NIMS establishes a consistent operational structure and language so everyone is working on the same page and speaking the same language during emergencies.
